Meeting Ramadan Again
A letter to the month that returns, even when we are not promised to.
Each year, we welcome Ramadan like an honoured guest, yet we are the ones honoured to still be here to witness it.
Dear Ramadan,
Now that you are here, our hearts are at peace. How blessed are we to witness your arrival once again. You return every year as promised, a mercy written into time, while we are only able to meet you if Allah wills. Oh Ramadan, do not be in a rush to leave.
Our souls have long yearned for you, and now your presence is right here with us, filling us with tranquility and ease. Our hearts, hardened by sins, ask that your days and nights bring us forgiveness and divine mercy. Oh Ramadan, do not be in a rush to leave.
It feels like reuniting with an old friend; every moment spent together is one to be cherished. Reciting the Qur’an during the day and standing in prayer at night becomes the rhythm that reshapes our days and draws us back to what truly matters. Oh Ramadan, do not be in a rush to leave.
Strengthen our Iman and steady our hearts. Make us among those whose lives become attached to the Qur’an and to Salah beyond your days, so that what we begin with you continues long after you are gone. Oh Ramadan, do not be in a rush to leave.
We enter you with hearts weighed down by our sins and shortcomings, hoping to leave you lighter, cleansed, and returned to our Lord. Free us from our attachment to this worldly life and teach us to seek what is lasting over what is temporary. Adorn us with prayer and remembrance and grant us the will to make the most of every day. Allow this month to transform us in ways only You know. Oh Ramadan, do not be in a rush to leave.
O Allah, do not let us pass through Ramadan heedlessly. Grant us presence in its days, sincerity in its nights, and acceptance when it leaves us. Do not make this our last Ramadan, and if it is written to be, let it be the one that brings us closest to You.

Ameeen ya rabb 🤲
